Brake fluid level

Tranny fluid
I just checked my tranny fluid level and have a question . Should there be any fluid in the upper reservoir or just a reading on the dip stick . Tranny shifts OK, just checked the fluids and wasnt sure if there was supposed to be fluid in the upper bowl.
