does anyone have a suggestion as to where to purchase brake pads for front and rear on my 2003 XJ8 (4.0)?

I bought EBC "Green Stuff" pads all around and EBC front rotors on line. Got them 5 days later. Put them on 5 months later... well I had to think about it for a while.

the parent company of Wagner also owns Mintex, my favorite. I wonder if the Wagner pads are repackaged Mintexes?

I like the dusty pads. Best stopping power, "bite" and feel.
The dust is the cost of doing business.
We are in good no compromise company with Volvo, Mercedes and BMW.

Rock Auto, Akebono Euro Ceramic. Wonderful pads. Low dust but still good bite, feel, and fade resistance. A little expensive, but a WONDERFUL pad for daily driving.

I have been very unimpressed with the EBC pads I have used in the past. i had Red Stuffs on my XJR, and they were very dusty, squeaky, and only lasted ~20k miles with only moderately heavy usage. Good bite and performance, but didn't last for anything. My dad ran some EBC Green Stuffs on his Mustang, and was similarly unimpresssed.

The stock Jurid pads are pretty good, but super dusty.

+1 on Akebono. I just installed my second set on my XJR. I love 'em. Worth every penny.

One always wonders what happens after corpotate parentage changes. Are existing manufacturing facilities essentially left as-is, producing the same product they always have? Or are they overhauled to match to needs/requirments/whims/philosophies of the new parent? In either case would it include *all* manufacturing locations, or just some. Or.....?

It can be hard finding the answers to these questions for any given product.

It's possible, even likely, that at least some of them are. Really hard to tell what you're buying these days. With today's rampant label-engineering I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Wagner or any other prominent name brake pads are a potpouri of products from several manufacturers.

Years ago I saw a TV documentary on manufacturing that used a brake pad plant as an example. One company, with a name nobody would recognize, was manufacturing brake pads of several quality levels that were eventually packaged under about a dozen different brand names.

One frustrating aspect of all this is being able to buy the same product a couple years down the road. Let's say you just bought the Mintex X311 Double Grip Tarantula GT brake pads and really like 'em. Now, 35k miles later they're worn out and you buy another set....and are disappointed with how they perform. You then find out they actually came from a different manufacturer entirely. Grrrr!

Ramble switch turned 'off' for the moment

Cheers

With the Jurid pads you should be able to get two pad sets before replacing the OE rotors .. Akebono pads are very good quality .. but don't see the point vs the OE Jurid.

I can't think of a single problem in 35+ years on countless Jaguars using the OE pads/ rotors .. I also do the fluid changes.

Hi all; my question is should I use metallic or non metallic break pads. I have had countless American cars and non metallic pads seem to do better and last much longer on those vehicles. American cars metallic pads seems to also mess up the rotors. This is my 1st Jaguar and want to do the best possible with out going in the hole with the purchase of parts. Also will parts like Wagner brand work well on the Jag?

what year and model? (Might put it in your signature so it will always be there).

I have been using Wagner thermo Quiet on the Jags and Land Rovers. Quiet, long lasting, and dust free. But if your car is an XJR and you are going run it on a track, you might want to spend a lot more money.

+1 on the Akebono (Euro?) Ceramics, no dust and they did very well when I tracked my XJR.

jhartz;
Not sure how to put into the signature area. Will look around when I get more time to poke around the site, and thank you for your help.

Got my Akebono ceramics from FCP Euro. Amazing to deal with, great pricing, and fantastic pads with very low dust.

Would not recommend if you use the brakes a lot, ie on a track, but for an everyday pad they're great
