brakes and oil change
Thanks everyone who has been so helpful on answering my posts.
I have two questions. 1. how easy/hard is it to change the brakes and rotors and change my oil on my 2003 xj8 308 and if anyone has specific instructions or pictures. thanks
I just get the local oil change and brake place to do mine. They don't charge any more
than they would for my Chevy pickup truck. Some shops charge $$$ just because it is
a Jaguar. I'd suggest full synthetic oil and of course a new filter. Change the air filter,
about $20. Ceramic pads. Most of the basic service isn't any harder to do than other
cars. You Tube video of rear brake change.

Just had all four rotors turned and new pads installed. At the local garage. Included cleaning wheel sensors and tightening brake shields that had jiggled loose. Cost me $395. Felt it was a great price for 6 hours labor and parts.
I've done both myself.
To change the oil you need to remove the undertray first, so you have to get the car jacked quite high. After that it's just like any other car.
To change rotors and brake pads: I got decent after market rotors and pads much cheaper and better than OEM. Fronts are easy. Just like any other car. Fro the rear you need the little doohickey

AKA special caliper tool - I got one for $9 from autozone
Here's vids for a '99 - it's fairly similar
The only trouble I had was that I needed a breaker bar 'cos it was like they had used all the blue thread locker in Coventry to tighten up the rear bolts on the caliper.

These are both really simple jobs that anyone can do.
There are plenty of tutorials so I won't offer any procedure.
It is a nice way for a novice to "commune" with his machine.
If you aren't so inclined then an independent servicer is preferred to what I call "under car" shops. Tire, muffler, brake and oil change joints. I have very strong negative feelings for their business practices and qualifications.
