JTIS says I should use coolant of this spec ESD-M97B49-A for my 99 XJ8 (Vin 876xxx). However this does not directly translate into the brands available with my local suppliers, eg Halfords, Sureparts etc (UK).

Having looked at a sample from the header tank the current coolant appears to be yellow, actually, you could say it has the colour of urine. Thankfully not the smell.

I know you should not mix different types so which brands of coolant available on the UK market would be correct for my car ?

The yellow stuff in the car would have been supplied at on of the previous main dealer services.

 

It looks like Halfords own brand fits the bill.

I have the same problem....had an emergency on the weekend where it overheated so filled up with what I had (VW Quantum antifreez with similar required properties) with a view to flush and refill soon. Also, try this thread for a more long term solution:

I can assure you that it's completely compatible with the XJ8 coolant system.

 

Referencing the info above it seems my car should DOW D542 coolant. Looking at thread in the XK8 section it seems this is the Yellow stuff.

Where can you get the yellow D542 ?

 

Rang my local Jag dealer, Stratstone, about D542. At first he suggested "Pink" coolant, (even more confusion over different types !). After asking what they do in the service shop he worked out that the Yellow D542 (# JML204043) is still available from Jaguar. 5Ltr cost £31.42 + VAT.

Whats the chances that yellow Spec. WSS-M97B51-A1 is the same as D542 ? Any way to check ?
