Default Broken headlamp

I have a broken glass lense on my 02 xj8 vanden plas Do I have to change entire lamp assembly or just the glass?? Looks complicated getting it taken apart, has anyone done it? Thanks Steve

Hello....you will need to change the entire light unit as these are a bobded glass to the plastic reflector as one unit.
To get at them first remove the colour coded plastic surround which will expose
the light unit mountings.
You will see there are three ball ended mounts on the frame.
spary silicon or similar onto these and either using two wide flat pieces of wood or plastic, lever the light unit off it's mountings....or, you can grasp it with both hands and pull forwards.
To replace make sure the plastic ball sockest are not broken...they get brittle with age and heat....dab a little greae or petroleum jelly on the ball ends,line up the light unit in the correct orientation and firmly push into place...check light alignment afterwards.
