Default CATS suspension shocks replacement

I'm trying to get as much information as possible restoring my x308 XJR. Previous owner told me 1 shock is bad in the rear and I never got a chance to drive the car due to a blown engine at the moment. I did some research and some said unplug the rear module to prevent the cats fault light coming on the dash. Now I'm trying to replace the shocks while the engine is out and $1600 is way out of question, but If I have no choice I don't mind. Is there a different shock type/brand that is compatible with CATS? Like the bilstein B4 for example or maybe a set of KYB's or Koni's?

The CATS suspension fault is very common if the module gets wet. It sits low in the trunk, remove the spare cover and look for water. Then fix the bad shock, if there is still a problem.
