hi all thanks to motorcarman.I tried the cd player in my other xj8 ,it works fine loads and plays with sound. so next question do I need to change wireing harness LNF-3650 BC. or do I need to check some thing else first.I would prefer to keep jaguar parts in my car instead of aftermarket cd player. thanks jrb53

 

You might have a wiring fault.
Here is a TSB for the X300 but shows how to check continuity in the CD harness.

The plug ends will be different but you get the idea.
