Default center console storage liner - 98 VDP

i found a really nice replacement storage liner to replace my "phone model" liner so i could actually put things in there. i finally got around to swapping it, however , the lid wouldnt close right. i see the regular liner is a bit deeper, but it fit right in. is it something with the metal arm that limits the lid from openning too far? belive me , i tried fitting it every way... seems like it should be stright forward!!! it will **** me off if this doesnt work , i finally found a nice piece for a good price!

I did the same, swapped out the phone unit and replaced with a regular insert.
While I had to move some of the wires around to get it to seat, the lid closed fine. I do not recall any issues apart from not replacing the front catch the right way.

I guess none of this helps you problem except to know it has been done.
Good luck.

Somewhere I have a stack of BOTH cubby inserts. When I worked at the dealer there were people that wanted a phone installed so the shallow one came with the kit. I kept the old deeper one.
Then other people wanted the phone removed and needed a deep cubby insert so the parts dept. sold the new deep one and I kept the used shallow phone unit.

They both fit but as 'dsetter' stated, you need to move wires around and if the phone module is still installed, you need to remove it.

The deep insert will not fit if the phone module is installed.

thanks all. the unit itself fit in no problem , and everything screwed back together, but then i went to close it , it seemed to get hung up on something about 1" from being closed. the chrome "holdback" rod, seems to be the culprit, but i cant guess what is getting in its way. but yes, at least i know it will work..
