Hi guys,

Im new to this forum and thinking about getting a XJR as a backup daily driver and was curious if there are any step by step tutorials on changing out the chain tensioners. I did a search on this forum and could not find any. One more thing was 2000 the first year for the steel bores?

There are numerous posts about an alternate way top change the secondary tensioners without the special tools, but if you are going to change the primaries and the secondaries, I recommend you look at this step by step.

Jaguar converted to steel sleeves in August of '00 at the engine facility. Check the driver door 'B' column label for manufacturer date. Anything past August '00 is probably steel. An August '00 date will require engine number verification. The first steel sleeve engine was 0008181043. Your dealer can produce a 'build sheet' based on the VIN that will document the assembly date and the engine serial number.

Maybe i'm using the wrong search strings to get results. I will try again.

I service my own cars and want to make sure this is something I can service myself. It seems thats its necessary to change out the tensioners if you are going to own one of these.
