check gas cap
Well, my almost new 2001 VDP has a check engine light and a check gas cap message. I have cleared the error code and installed a new gas cap, though I suspected that was not the problem. Sure enough, after about 50 miles, the check gas cap light came back on. I am guessing this is a problem some of you have had, so any words of wisdom are welcome.
What was the OBDII code? Then track it using Google or the search function, above. There have been lots of threads on the issue, dependent on the actual code. Seems most fixed with cleaning the cap and tank mating surfaces.
2 codes, the one for the "check gas cap" is P0455
A second code is P1000 No DTC definition found
The first code I can erase, the second one will not erase.

P0455 can be caused by a failure of the purge valve canister valve or a bad hose. It really means gross leak detected. Use the search function P0455 and you will find lots of suggestions.
P1000 means the ECU has not completed emission tests. It will be replaced by P 1111 when everything checks out.
