Chip tuning - does it work?
Hi all,
I was just wondering if there are any hold in the claims that is being made from chip tuning with better mpgs, up to 10% more hp, 50% better throttle respons, cleaner emissions and so forth.
As I understand, these chips are supposed to give a better/optimized signal to the ECU than standard chip. Can any with technical insight confirm that these chips actually work with no consequences to engine/ECU or is this just BS and waste of money?
There are several, but this is a OBDII type:

If you do a search on the forum you will find many negative responses and maybe one supporter. If it were that easy and worked as well as they claim, everyone here would have done it years ago.
As with so many things, there are genuine vendors, and charlatans. The more outrageous the claims, the more I would be wary.
I've personal experience of a chip by APR for my Audi A6 2.7T, that gained a genuine, real 60 hp - but that was on a turbocharged engine. Gains on a non-turbo engine are usually minimal, and probably not worth the money.
