In the days of old, cars with this type of trim often had such a cover, but the X308 was never fitted with them.

So how did I pry one off a X308 at the junkyard?

@OP ... used might be your only choice unless one is languishing in a parts drawer somewhere or an auto glass shop has a universal type that happens to match.

It's stainless steel so a wipe with a cloth and it looks good as new.

I have looked at photos of hundreds of X308s for sale and not a single one had one (plus I've seen dozens of. Plums, I don't know what market you are in but some parts of the world might've gotten them, but US Spec X308s/ UK spec don't seem to have them. Also, all stock photos of X308s from Jaguar have no clips fitted to the cars. The X300 was fitted, but the X308 was not.

ahem, photos aside ....

North American JEPC

#GNA8854AA, joint clip, black finish, $19.09
#BEC23512, joint clip, bright finish, $15.62

to vin 874864

The finishers themselves do not have a vin break. Therefore, the joint clip was simply not installed after vin 874864 without any compensating design change to the finishers.

Either they did another round of cost cutting, or they were replacing too many due to the wiper blade fouling the clip. But, they were fitted on at least some North American market X308 series Jaguars.

The solution to the fouling is to buy a 1 inch shorter wiper blade which results in 1/2 inch of increased clearance at each end of the blade. It also lets the blade avoid being disturbed during the sweep so that it works better.

Well seeing as how the black trim was not available on
any US models (except the XJR-100), I don't think it is
super-specific, but I have seen a ton of these things
driving around, 98-03 without one in front or rear.

When the original post was made I went through dozens of
stock photos and never saw the clips, (except X300) but
I also don't have any reference material to the VINs
at the moment.

If you missed it, the second line is the bright finish as normally used in the North American market. The prices in the catalog are quoted in US dollars, not GBP, Japanese Yen or any other currency.

All of the material was drawn from JEPC using the North American X308 specific section. The X300 has its own section.

That ought to be proof positive that the clips were installed on some X308's even if you have not seen one. Vin 874864 is quite early in the X308 series.

I already stated that I have one in my toolbox awaiting installation when the shorter wiper blade goes on. Even one is not none. It might be rare, but it is not none.

I should have stated my car is vin 864218, in Australia.
I think if there was no clip there then the finishers would be all one peice as opposed to a 2 peice finisher around the windsheild.
Should my car have this clip or not? If i buy one will it fit?

The finisher would be the same either way.

According to your vin it should have been fitted.

BUT, does it really matter?

The clip that I have came from a VDP. Maybe it was only fitted on certain models even before the cutoff vin.

I'm fitting mine only because of a rather large gap, but only after making sure that the wiper blade will not push it off. If I had not found it when looking for other parts, I would not bother looking for it separately.

Osyris...you may be interested to learn that mine was never fitted with one and my Vin is 844764 May '98.
There is no gap in the finishers front or rear and my screens are original.
As has been mentioned, they are available, or were but I would ascertain they were only fitted to specifiic models for a short time.
Henforth towit I would suggest your car is completely normal ;o))
