Code reader that can pull ABS codes (99 XJ8)
I'm in Canada and Ive got a 99 XJ8 that is randomly throwing stability and ABS codes. They'll stay on for a bit and then clear themselves sometimes the next time I start the car....sometimes a few starts later, etc.
I hooked up my BlueDriver dongle and ran the app. It will check engine codes (which weren't active at the time) but it won't check any other modules on the car.
I'm wondering which scanner will work for me? I don't want to have to use a laptop... Would prefer a stand-alone setup or a dongle and app setup.
I looked into the Torque app but it doesn't look like it will do deep scans either.
I'm not looking to spend a ton of money as it will only ever be used for this car. My other cars/trucks all Dodge/Chrysler and the Blue driver works mint for those.
Thanks 👍

All dongles read the same stuff, if your current don't neither will the next one
You will have to buy standalone scanner, search threads and choose one the suits you best
It maybe be brake pedal switch, abs module cold joint or anything else, without the code it is only guess

They both are ok, my i930 had software issues and i had to return it but it works well for others here, you can also get a foxwell in this price range or just go to local shop and have them pull the codes for you

I have an Autel, that works well I'm my 2002 XJR.
But random coeds tend to be related to other issues. I would check battery voltage, battery clamps and the big fuses in the boot for corrosion and clean all mass points.

I've got a Foxwell something, seems to do everything but since I bought it the car hasn't thrown any codes to prove it.
I'd guess an ABS sensor, sensor loom (they've got their own short section for the bit that flexes) or the classic dry joints in your ABS module as the cause of your issue, that's how mine started & it was the ABS module.

My foxwell would crash gearbox module from time to time if connected to already running car, it would scan for available modules and while at gearbox would make gearbox rumble loud
i didn't take the risk, sold it at second such occurrence
