Question Coolant Leak

Hey Guys!

I have a 2001 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas and I'm experiencing a coolant leak just beneath this cap. Could anybody give any insight on what may be causing this and if the cap is able to come off to further inspect?

Thank you in advance.

If I had to hazard a guess it looks like your thermostat tower is plastic and has developed a crack. You can take the cap off, no problem.

It's time to change to an aluminum tower. There is lots of information on this and the XK8 forum if you do a search.

Thank you. I'll have to order the aluminum thermostat housing and get this repaired ASAP.

This thread got me to thinking that maybe, just maybe this is also the root of my leak problem! I went out and took a look and can now see that this is where my leak is.

Where are you going to get the aluminum housing?

Is there a how-to thread with photos for replacing it?

OldMike, I bought mine from Welsh:

Welsh Enterprises - New Jaguar Parts, Used Jaguar Parts and Accessories - XK120 - XK140 - XK150 - E-Type - MK - XJ6 - XJ8 - XJ - XK8 - XK - XJS - S-Type - X-Type - XF

There have been several threads on replacement, try the Sticky's or Gus' site jagrepair.com, either XK8 or XJ8 are the same.

Follow RJ's links for a 'HOW TO'

Arm yourself with a Crow's Foot wrench for the two rear bolts or be prepared to bend an open ended. Those two bolts are the only awkward part of the job. Several members have replaced them with Hex Screws.
