driver side inner headlamp lens (or "bucket") replacement

I have a broken headlight lens, driver's side inner, on my 2001 XJ8. I have a replacement coming (including the "bucket") but need to know how to R & R. Is it possible to install JUST the lens or do you have to use the "bucket and all"

? HELP!!!
