Crank Lock Pin - No triangle visible
I'm replacing the chains on a 2000 XJ8
Got it all torn down all chains off
I have used both the front and rear access views under the crank near the torque convertor, looking at the starter ring/drive plate
I had someone else look, then we used a video camera. We cant find any "stamped in the metal triangle" to set the location for the crank locking pin.
Assuming its not there for whatever reason, after market ring etc, is there another way to set the timing position of the crank so we can lock it, TDC of a cylinder ?
Thanks

Im seeing via various sources that setting the number 1 cyl to 45 degrees ATC is the same as using the missing triangle for setting the crank lock pin, and that the number 1 cylinder is the front most passenger side cylinder in a usa left hand drive vehicle, can anyone confirm that these two assertions are correct ?
Thanks
Thanks
ok i think ill solve my own problem
there is no triangle
i placed what i thought is number one cyl at TDC, rotated the crank 45 ATC
got under car and looked at the holes for the crank sensor, and like magic, a SPECIAL hold that is not SQUARE like the others but has a ROUNDED side that is just MADE for the crank locking pin is lined up perfectly now.
So stop looking for a triangle, look a for a hole thats not cut square like the 50 other holes
thanks,

Indeed, I understand that you are! The AJ27 engine, which yiou have has no triangle. That info is for the AJ26. Many bits of advice and a few aruments on here do not consider the subtle differences between these engines!
Good luck.
