Daimler Super V8 Gearbox fault
Hi,
I just bought this Daimler Super V8 from 1998. It is the x308, has 130000km on the dash, it is the one with the supercharged 4.0 V8 and Mercedes transmission.
I bought it last Thursday. Drove like 150km home without any issues (apart from traction and stability control fail warning because of faulty ABS sensor - I was aware of that). The car shifted smoothly, power was as it should be. I parked the car and when i started it next day it showed this gearbox fault. Must say that this error appeared the previous day also, but I just switched the engine off and on again and fault disappeared. But this time, it stays there and car is only in one gear (guessing second or third).
Could this be because of the ABS sensor? Or battery? Or some other electronic? Or could it be some actual mechanical problem within the gearbox? As i said, the car was driving absolutely perfect the day before, there was no clunk or sudden bang from the transmission apart from quite harsh gear selection (drive, reverse)
Thank you very much for your help!
Adam

Hi Adam, welcome.
When you've a moment pop over to the new members section and introduce yourself - it helps get your post count up so you can download manuals and files.
So, there's a couple of things to try first - a charge of the battery, anything under 12.5V will lead to electrical issues, so get a fully charged battery on it.
While it's off the car charging, hold the battery cables together to discharge the memory, this is called a 'hard reset'. It can clear glitches in programs.
With the battery fitted, see what faults come back. An OBD reader is a great tool for a new owner, look for one that can read transmission, chassis and engine codes.
One thing that the usually bomb proof gearbox is known for is the seal to the control loom connector failing, capillary action draws fluid up the cable and onto the connections, causing spurious codes.
It's the cable going from chassis to the side of the transmission.

If it were me, I would first look into the ABS fault. Many Jaguar owners have discovered
that the solder at specific points on the ABS circuit board had failed and because of flex
the connections, became erratic, causing multiple issues. Do a search in this forum for
"ABS solder" and you will discover several methods to repair the suspected issue. At that
point you can check it that problem applies to your Jaguar.
