Default In dash gps ?

It's Alan again with many thanks to help already given. Saw the cartoon clip too ,have seen it a fair number of times before. My second name is Murgatroyd, so I have always got a fair amount of "Murgatroyd the villian" , and "heavens to Murgatroyd, exit stage right" as well.
What I would like some advise about is whether or not there is an in dash GPS such as used on the later model Jaguars (2004 onwards) available. I can't get hold of the original GPS for my model and have been told my car hasn't the wiring for it anyway. I noticed that there is a lot of unconnected wire near the battery in the boot , dunno what that's for but I thought it maybe for the premium sound unit not fitted to my car. Thanks in anticipation to all you out there, am gobsmacked at the help available on this forum.......

I always wondered what that meant - heavens to murgatroyd. I think that was Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har. Anyway, I don't think there is enough room for a screen for Sat/Nav on my VDP. The portable ones they sell now are cheap and work great though. Cheers !

Hi to all, a nice person from the USA sent me some information about a nav system he had for sale, I have lost it . Unfortunately I am not computer literate so can't work out how to find you. If you do read this , I received your info but have decided not to go ahead with trying to retro-fit a nav system in my XJ8 , to me the game is not worth the candle. But I really appreciate the effort of the person who sent me info , and apologise for ultimately wasting his time..... Alan

I removed the crappy cup holder in the armrest of my XJR and installed a Garmin GPS that folds into the console when not in use.

A lot less trouble than mounting one in the dash and I can swap for a newer Garmin unit anytime.

Used Garmins like mine are available on the 'bay for around $50.

Thanks for that info, your instal looks super neat. Did you have to have a aerial wire somewhere to make the GPS work or does it work ok as your photo shows ?? Thanks in anticipation...Alan

Works just fine where it is with no additional antenna needed.
