Dash illumination module

Dash illumination module
I need to replace the dash board illumination (dimmer) control module on my '01 XJ8. Does anyone know of a way to get to it other than removing the center console and dash? It has little clips on the back that look like it would pop off but it is in a very hard to get at spot behind the dash. Thanks!
