Default Diff for 2000 XJR

Hey all,

Going to be picking up a 2001 XJR that's in need of a new pumpkin and I was wondering if the unit from a standard XJ8 is the same ratio and fitment. I think it's a 3:06 if I'm not mistaken. Also, how bad a job is it to swap the diff?

All the diffs are the same EXCEPT for the MEXICO and 3.2 liter V8.

I hired my neighbor to help me change mine out. It took about 4 hours. We are both shade tree mechanics. And I'm talking about a LOT of shade. It was physically difficult, but mechanically, it went smoothly.

Have a rolling hydraulic jack to drop and pull out the pumpkin when disconnected and it helps a lot.

We did it in my driveway. Jacked only the back of the car and set it on 6 jack stands (5000 lbs is a little scary to lay under). Propped up the Diff with the hydraulic jack, unbolted everything, and pulled it out. Swapped all parts, and rolled it back in. Lining it all back up was a little difficult, but not too bad.

It's actually 'only' 4000 lbs, but I suppose it would squash you about the same.

Ahh, like I said, VERY Shade Tree... My door sticker says GVWR 5002 lbs. I assumed that was Gross vehicle weight. Now I'm guessing that's loaded weight?

Yeah, I don't believe the extra 1000 lbs would change the body squashing that much, but I sure don't like being that far off on my numbers.

Thanks guys. I got the car and am not so sure it actually needs a diff. There's no noise when you set off and it sounds more like a scraping sound which comes only occasionally and from the left rear exhaust silencer area. I have a two-post lift so I'll get it up in the air and have a good root around. Almost seems like a muffler is hitting one of the half shafts or something...will report back!

Cheers,
Aaron

Yes, that's loaded weight. Curb weight is 4075 lbs. Mine actually weighs less then 3900 lbs. with 1/2 tank of gas.

Group Buy?

Quick question... who sells LSD's for the X308? Paramount Performance is the only one I've found so far.

By the way, here's the Paramount LSD I was referring to: Click here

And here is a thread providing some information about the Paramount LSD: Click Here

Specifically:

RT QUAIFE Engineering Ltd, manufacturers of Automatic Torque Biasing (ATB) Limited Slip Differentials, have given Racing Green Cars Ltd and TL Jaguar Ltd exclusive rights to the QDF 4W ATB LSD for the Jaguar X100 (steel-bodied XK8 and XKR). The above two companies have also agreed to supply this product for sale by Paramount Performance Ltd - provided they apply the same deposit and retail price structure(see below). TL Jaguar Ltd will fit QDF 4Ws for Paramount Performance Ltd.
So it looks like there are 3 companies in the UK that all sell the same Quaife unit.

Any other LSD units?

Anyone in the U.S. that sells these Quaife units?

-Caleb

No, none of the X308 Jags had an LSD fitted as standard-even the XJR.

It's an urban myth.....however it doesn't prevent car breakers advertising XJR diffs on ebay for £400....when you can get exactly that same item (i.e. XJ8) for around £100....:-0

You may want to get in touch with Xenophobe. He acquired an OSGiken unit with excellent results.
