I just ordered some new bearings for my 15 HU rear end and I got the Dana44 bearings, shims and seals for about $90 for both sides. So glad I went away from the weedy 14 HU rear end. now I have to make sure I get enough shims

Toyo make really really high quality bearings. I would rate them over Timken and skf

Is there a thread with more info on that 15HU conversion? I tried to research it a while back but didn't get very far...

There's some info here.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...2/#post1522782

-The axles with U joints can be kept the same,
-but the nose of the 15HU is offset slightly compared to the 14HU and the triangular flange plate that it goes through must be off a 15 Hu car, an X300 or XJ40.
- In addition the exhaust hanger flanges of the 15HU cars don't line up with the X308 system so some minor fabrication would be needed there.

What I got designed and fabricated was the shaft and companion flange/flange adaptor-
I used a Torsen T2R slipper unit - the stock X308 doesn't have an LSD at all
-I had to use a rebuild kit for the combination of Salisbury/GKN and Dana was

- I selected a heat treated and very strong Dana 44 ring gear and used 30spline 3.07 ratio rear end

-The design and fab of 30 spline shafts opened the door to using sophisticated LSDs or traction units for the diff carrier. The stock unit is 19 spline which limits options

The 15 Hu unit uses an 8.5 inch diameter crownwheel and the stock 14 HU unit is only 8 inches (the later X350 is only 8 inches also). This only tells half the story though, as selecting special heat treated ring gear Dana 44 units really boosts the strength.

Maybe I'm reading all the information wrong, but JaguarClassicParts here in the UK are selling the diff output bearings at £71.80 per side, plus £20 for the bearing retainer collars? Latest conversion to $ says that's around $92.23 for the bearings and $25.70 for the collars... per side?

Am I misreading or misunderstanding something, sorry if I have?

There are 2 bearings per side: inner, called "Differential bearing", JLM20336 at GBP 71.80 and outer, called "Differential Shaft Bearing", JLM20337 which is the expensive one - GBP 268.40 (JaguarClassicParts prices). However, SNG Barrat also have (in stock) an aftermarket reproduction of the expensive JLM20337 at GBP 75 excluding VAT.

Those cheaper ones are the roller bearings for the diff pinions, the expensive ones are the ones you need if you're doing output shaft bearings. (per above post)
