Default Differential Oil Change

Hello Folks, I have my Xj8 98 up on stands ready to change the diff oil. I located the vent plug on the top right side of the differential. I unscrewed the darn plug and fit in plastic tubing about 2.5 feet. Problem is tubing does not hit the oil? Tubing moves freelly but does not even get wet?
could it be the vent tube is conical and I need a thiner tubing or is ther another hole I need to unplug.

Thanks much for your help
Rique

Should put the tube into the full hole... if you are doing that an not hitting and oil... you may have an issue i.e. your bone dry and this is bad.

let's get the terms straight. The vent IS NOT the fill plug. The fill plug is 1/3 of the way down on the rear of the case towards the right side. It has a square indentation to use a socket breaker bar to loosen. You have to look hard to see it as it is behind a member.
