Default Do You "Drive" Your XJ?

I have an '03 XJ8 that I believe was previously owned by people who never really "kicked it" when driving. I've tweaked it a bit and it drives REAL nice!

I love the feel of it off the line, and the sound, too! It goes like a rocket and can even downshift and pass quickly. I "DRIVE" this car -- and it seems to really like it!

How do you treat your "classic?"

BTW -- At 10 years old, this car isn't technically a "classic," but since the new XJ body style has come out, this car is now like a classic to me!

would liek to open it up one day but not many places to really do that here inthe states, legally. And being the unlucky bloke that I am, I'd probaby get bagged even on the most remote roads where a cop is there only once every 20 years. It will be my luck the day I do it is the day that the cop is there.

I also like the way my car cruises on the highway -- I jumped in mine less than 12 hours after buying it and drove almost 1,000 miles -- I wasn't even fatigued after that drive.

I hit 100mph once, without realizing it. I was simply passing someone and it just plain took off -- went from 70 to triple digits without a complaint.

I have a 2000 xjr. I drive it daily and regulary get 14 mpg. So yes... It's not as fast as my subi off the line but it is pretty fun once it gets going

I use my XJ for everything, I drive it to work, I use it for running round in, I use it to go on Holiday or Vacation and I have no problems with hitching a car transporter trailer to it and moving cars with it too! I wouldn't want anything else, the X308 is the best tool for the job.

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who uses their XJ every day! I hate like heck to park it in the parking lot at work, though! Might have to find alternative parking facilities for the Jag.

I drive mine everyday, and I've taken it on three 1,000 mile trips in the last year. Everything works great. My last Jag was an '85 XJ6 which I drove for 13 years. I even won a couple of trophies at car shows. I would still be driving it now if the dreaded tin worm had not finally won out. But, I love my VDP. I've wound the VDP up to 6800 rpms a few times, it's a lot of fun.

Hey ECW - I also have a Subaru (Legacy GT, manual) besides my VDP S/C. Both are modified. My Subi is faster off the line because of the all wheel drive but once rolling the torque in the Jag is amazing and the car flies. I wish the Jag had a modern tranni with instant shifting and paddle shifters. In the rain it is all Subi - in the snow, forget it, the Jag is home in the garage

That seems to be universal. Jag drivers fear nothing while in motion, but door dings are another story.

swmbo call's me 'Surge' as in surging around, my old man calls it swanning about, whatever, I'm always in sport mode and it's averaged 12.5mpg on the last full tank. She's quick and surprisingly light on her feet for a big girl, oh and likes snacking on Impreza's like twinkys

My very first drive was a 5000kms trip from Pasadena to Ottawa 9 hrs a day for 4 days. Did not tier at all. It is now a daily driver, though not by me. In the winter it gets a set of snow tires and does exceedingly well. Just need to get the rear suspension sorted.

To be honest I prefer my 96 Audi S6!

Tony

LOL all you guys seem meek haha I have a 99 XJR I picked up less than a year ago with 45K on it as of today it has 67K on it I use it daily, trips, fun, ive taken it to the track I have a blast with it. Thing rockets off the line just get good tires and it hooks nicely very lil spin and I have a 3lb pulley on it. I keep it in sport mode as well at all times and average around 20 to 23mpg out of my car dont know why you guys are getting such bad mileage.

I just bought mine two weeks ago with the intention that it be a daily driver. I'd been driving a pickup daily, but after back surgery just made things worse, I decided to get a luxury car. This one's got a bunch of door-dings already and I got an estimate for paintless dent repair of $385 to make it all laser straight but I'm torn because of our parking lot at work. I had to climb in the passenger side door the other day after work because somebody'd parked too close to my driver side. At least my XJ is white so it doesn't show the dings as bad.

I have an XJ8 4.0 instead of an R and am able to easily average 28-30mpg on the motorways, that is with all the toys operational. I'm driving down to Somerset in a couple of weeks, a 200 mile trip, and this kind of mileage will work to my advantage

I've got a few dings because of careless workmates and the selfish nature of society today, I'm going to have the whole car sorted after I finish messing round with my little Triumph.

The car of choice for the wannabies in Australia is Holden 3.6 V6...had a young bloke playing games out on the highway (slowing down when you couldn't overtake) When a up-hill passing lane started he "floored it" as I went out to overtake. Desroyed him in the XJ Sport as I watched the 200 K's come up.Yes I use ALL the horses!! Love it too.
(never saw that car again) The wolf in sheep clothes.
