Does your trunk/boot rise on it's own once unlocked, of do you have to lift it..? Reason I as is mine doesn't but the XF I've had for the past week does.. Wondered if my struts were getting weak.

My Xj doesn't - it just unlocks.

 

My defunct 1999 XK8 boot lid rose very slightly when unlocked. It took little effort to raise the lid and one had to slam it to get it shut.

My current 2000 XK8 boot top rises less when unlocked and takes more effort to raise it to its full open position. However, it has a leather pull loop to assist closing the boot. The gas strut aids in closing the lid without slamming it shut. Nice improvement over the 99 XK8's behavior.

Same here, it does not rise on its own.

 

My 99 XJ8 unlocks but stays down. Once you lift, it stays up just fine.

 

My XJ8 L just lifts and I have to raise the lid manually
