I was not able to open my front passenger door from inside as the handle sprig failed to "swing"

is there any fix?

One likely cause would be a broken cable. I have had to replace one of mine when I could not open my drivers door from the inside. The inside door handle at the time was "floppy". It had broken on the end by the latch, this is where the spring would come from on the door handle.
