Howdy all, I have a bit of wind noise on the highway that I'm digging into, and after a 2 hour highway trip, I noticed that the outer part of the door mirrors jiggles around with wind. I took the passenger side mirror off and you can see quite a lot of up and down and tilting play on the mirror housing. Not just the plastic cover but essentially the spring that locks the mirror into place. I'm not sure whats normal here, but this seems like an awful lot. Seems like Jag doesn't sell the spring assembly, so I'd be looking at some used mirrors if this is an issue.

Can any of you give your mirrors and up and down push from the other edge and a clockwise rotational twist and see if you're finding any noticeable play?

There are three Phillips screws behind a little hatch/cover under the hinge. Make sure those are snug first.

Hey John, yes I checked those. With the glass off, you can see the spring compress without any play in the housing or base.

The white plastic bar that goes across the ring edges in the middle of the ring were broken on my car. Mirror glass moved quite fine but it wobbled at highway speeds. I took whole ring tilt motor apart and glued the bar back to together and it worked well untill I replaced whole motor with new one.

If those three Phillips screws are tight and you still have play, then the motor module might be in question.

There is a fixing nut you can access on the inside of the door, backside of the mirror base fastens behind the little triangular corner piece.
Using a plastic trim tool you can pry this away enough to get a spanner on it. The mirror loom runs through the hollow bolt, you'll see the nut you need to tighten up.

Thanks for all these tidbits. I have tried the bolt, but it was tight.

My issue is in the rotation spring mechanism, not the connection to the body or the mirror itself. Basically the spring seems too soft to keep the mirror from moving on the highway. But it seems like I'm alone on this one. Thanks anyways
