Default door speakers problem

Hi,

I have XJR from 2000 with the premium sound system. I just bought it and now I'm in the process of fixing the small faults.

The problem is that the speakers in the doors on the right side do not work. I mean the big ones, the back door has also a small one which works fine.

Since both of them (back and front) are not working, is it possible that there is some common plug which is disconnected?

Any idea where to find some info about how the sound system is connected and were in the car are the cables?

thanks a lot,
Asen.

Save yourself some trouble and go and have them replaced with better speakers. I got quoted $400 to replace all the speakers minus the Subwoofer which blows up every 6 months anyways.

well, the thing is I don't know if the problem is the speakers, the lines to the speakers, the amplifier etc.

makes no sense to go for speakers exchange until I find out what's wrong ...

thanks anyway

If two speaker are out, but the tweeters are still working, it's likely the speakers... it can't be the head unit, or the wiring - they're all wired separately - but the rear speaker is wired in parallel with the tweeter, so if the tweeter is working, the speaker should be too. It could be the amp (for the front speaker only), but not as likely as the speakers.

Here's the stereo wiring from the electrical diagram for 2000 XJ series Premium Sound: (download the complete diagram yourself from: http://www.captainjaguarscathouse.co...ec%20Guide.pdf )

So finally I had some time to have a look on what is wrong with the speakers. And you were right, they are blown.

What do you recommend, buying the same as originally Jaguar put there (the premium sound system) or going for something better? Any suggestion what this "better" can be?

The factory Jag speakers are a compromise. I would not replace with those.

So now what to buy is a tricky question and the range of answers you get will be based on taste. Here's what I'd look for:

Sensitivity - around 90db (1W/M) The more sensitive the less power needed to drive it.
Frequency response - 50hz - 20,000khz
4 Ohm

There are many speakers out there and they run a wide range in price. It all depends on how you listen. If you are on the phone or do not normally listen at higher volumes, invest less. If you want the best sound considering the power output of your stock system, spend more.
