Default Door unlock getting stuck with key

Hello everyone! Hope all is well with your week. Today I went to unlock the Jag with my key and instead of unlocking it got stuck. I could not turn the key to the right. I was able to unlock turning right with enough force.

Would I just need to clean the lock out and apply some oil?

Locking to the left is fine; it's just the unlock. Thanks!

I believe there is a plastic connector on the cylinder to rod assembly that may be your issue and causing the binding. You'll have to remove the door panel and reach up to feel it. Its been awhile since I was in mine, but I think its a snap over of plastic clasp that may have come undone? Wish I could find a pdf for ya to make it easier. Be aware of the plastic overlay, just peel it from the bottom carefully so you can relay it.
I'm fairly sure oil isn't the total issue, but I recommend a dry lubricant if you want to try it first, you can get it at Homer over by the door locks by hardware. If you use a 3 in 1 oil, then it'll get on your key on insertion and then in your pocket.
If you haven't removed your panels before, be prepared to get a few new push in plastic slip locks. They tend to break in half, but I did have a holder tear off on one panel when I redid my bezel handle gaskets and replaced my speakers. Good time to give it a nice cleaning also.

Try the easy way out first. Clean and lube the cylinder.

Jaguars seem prone to this because owners prefer using
the remote until the uh-oh moment when they need to
use the key.

+1. Work the simple solution first. Try little WD-40 in the lock, work the lock slowly, don't break the key or the lock. If it loosens up, Working it back-and-forth will help free it up.

And while you're at it, do the same thing with the trunk lock.

If that does not work, you will have to remove the door card from the driver side door and go after the lock mechanism itself. There are threads with pictures on how to remove the door card. The inserts Highhorse mentioned are expensive.

So far so good after applying WD40; I'll check to see if it still does the trick tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

Never use WD-40 in a lock! It will gum up the tumblers over time and cause more problems. Suggest you clean it out with brake cleaner and after it dries squeeze some dry graphite lubricating powder, which you can find at Home Depot, into the keyhole. This applies to all locks.

Yikes; did not know that. I'll pick of both of those up tomorrow. Thanks XJR Pilot!

I disagree. Is the lock getting freed up or not? Each time you pull out the key, wipe it off; you don't want grease in your pants pocket.

Graphite is the correct way to go to lubricate a working lock; it won't free a frozen lock as well as WD 40.. Maybe the brake cleaner will work; but so will WD 40 or any one of the off brand equivalents. Most people have WD 40 in their house.

Hm; I've heard graphite can freeze locks and that if it gets wet, ect it was no where to go so it stays. The lock is now unfrozen with using the WD40.
