Default Remote key fob on pre-facelift xjs?

Hi all,

With my wife driving the xjs as a daily it is getting increasingly hard to open the driver's door (the lock has a bit of play and she will end up breaking the key in it).

I have seen diagrams showing that the car has some sort of door lock module (it has central locking so it must do), so I was wondering if these originally came with some sort of remote key fob or if I will have to adapt a universal after market one, which I guess is doable as the car already has some sort of electric actuators.

Has anyone done this before?

ta

Miq.

1989. I will double check but I am pretty sure that that module is there. I guess that if there is central locking there has to be some sort of module which could be bypassed using a universal remote kit thingy

Given the simplicity of the actuators and the fact that it is central locking, it would be very easy to put a generic kit in it. Honestly the biggest issue (to me) is finding a system with a non-hokey looking key fob

The CATS security system (or alternative) is needed to interface with the central locking in order to have remote function.

Remote fob was an option for pre facelift XJS so barely any were sold as far as I know, you would need two Jaguar alarm kits and the fob is DAC6160 and you can find it on ebay. As for the kits, they were something close £300 for both last time I looked. David Manners might have a set, don't remember the part numbers though.
The loom is there so everything is plug and play.
