Default Key fob rubber pad

I have a 1998 Vanden Plas. The remote fob has been intermittently problematic for awhile; I'd usually end up cleaning the contacts when the buttons got spotty, and then the remote would again start working.

Today, I have a new problem, one of the rubber buttons actually fell out. I noticed the rubber was torn before, so I was always careful when doing anything with it, but time and wear has finally taken its toll. The attached pic shows what an intact version should look like.

In searching the web, I can find replacement rubber keypads for seemingly every other variety of x308 except mine. I think 1998 was a one year only type remote pad for this car (maybe for XK as well?) as all buttons are exactly the same size and shape. The transmitter part works fine, so I'd rather not just replace the whole thing unless that is the only option.

Anyone have a source on just the rubber pad? My google-fu is usually pretty strong, but not in this case.

If I can't locate a replacement pad, I am considering taking a newer style XF case and doing some dremel alterations.

Thanks!

I just went through this yesterday. I had repaired my 98 XJ8's fob so many times it reached the point of no return finally when one of the rubber buttons went AWOL. The closest fitting case (no guts) they sell locally around here (Pep Boys) is the standard Ford fob case. It's square and approximately the same size, 4 buttons and all, but the buttons appear to be too far apart for a gut transplant. The PepBoys manager suggested checking with a local highly regarded locksmith here, because he has more inventory, and has sources with even greater inventory.

Well, an unused replacement, guts and all, was $800.00! We both laughed. He suggested Ebay.

I found one in perfect physical condition on the 'Bay for $50 that claims it only needs batteries. I hope that's true, guess I'll find out soon enough since I sprung for it. Since the PCB in mine is still good, at very least, I'll be able to do a gut transplant.

Like you, my Google-fu failed me on a cheap replacement bladder. My $50 solution is going to work though. Most likely the replacement I bought will work just fine as is with new batteries, I'll program it using the instructions found on this site, and It'll be my number 1, and my number 2 will be the old one, minus 1 button. If it's DOA, then I'll do a gut transplant and have one good one for years to come (knock on wood).

Hope that helps, let us know how you make out.
