Greetings all. Need some help here in Atlanta GA. I have a 98XJ8 and the catch arm on the drivers door is broken. The catch arm is the thing that hold the door open and still while you lod yourself intot the car. My service manual say's nothing about it other than to decribe it as a "catch Arm"
Anybody know how to repir/replace?
Also, is the termperature disply LED supposed to be back lit? If so how would I repair that?
Thanks

The door card has to come off to determine the exact problem and to repair it.
This is the Check Arm:

The usual problem is that the door frame splits and rips the Check Arm out:

A simple repair can be made using a small metal plate cut to size or a couple of large washers on either side of the split.

Very common failure. By the time I heard a popping at drivers door, the damage was done. Place a metal preformed reinforcing plate and new door check to repair. Used washers one one side of door tear and plate on other with bolts through. Tightened to flatten out metal before installing new plate and check.
