Default electrical issue

I took my instrument panel out to replace a dash light. when I put the light in and reinstalled the instrument panel I ended up with a mass of warnings including low oil pressure low, low coolant, battery not charging. Also the fuel gauge is not working. One thing to mention is I did not disconnect the battery when I took the instrument panel out. Does anyone have any solution to my problem. I am afraid to drive the car as it is right now because I don't know if I'm getting false information from the computer and if so how do I reset it. Can I just disconnect the battery and take the connectors out of the instrument panel and reconnect them? Please help if you can.

I don't have an answer, but will follow suggestions as I need to change my dash bulbs as well.

Cheers

Yes you can disconnect battery and try again. Before reconnecting try charging the battery for 8-12 hours and then hope.

Default Dash lights are a breeze

Replacing the dash lights were a simple task. Just carefully pry off the woodgrain panel, remove trip reset and fog light switches (unplug), then remove the four screws. The cables to the instument panel are a little difficult to get out but certainely not impossible. The lights (underside of instument panel) unplug from the screw-in-plastic retainers and are available at any auto parts store. The larger bulbs are #194. I didn't change the small ones. I should have though. That must have been a dumb attack. Good luck!

The instrument panel is part of the CAN BUS .. that is the computer "grid" that controls the whole car -- it allows interaction between the components -- but when one part fails whole sections of the "grid" stop.

Example: The climate control gets a feed from the dash temperature gauge -- without it the ACC will not function correctly.

I guess you understand now that you should have removed the battery and used antistatic precaution when you pulled out the cluster. I would disconnect and reconnect the battery -- and see what happens. If no luck I would then go and pull the cluster and make sure everything is properly connected

The early cars did have a ground issue -- but I believe by 2001 it was fixed.

There are several companies that rebuild electronic modules, including the instrument cluster. Automotive scientific is one of them.
