Default Emissions inspection failure

I have a 2003 XJ8 (4.0), and I recently failed my (NJ) emissions inspection. The sheet they gave me said O2 sensor and cat both report not ready. I find it odd that both of these would go randomly, without any noticable effect in the exhaust gas itself...and my gas mileage is fine. Therefore it's likely something electronic. Just wondering if anyone has advice on what may be causing this, and how I can fix it, so I can get my inspection sticker on my girl.
Thanks

cat converters usually have around 8 year warranty, so id replace the faulty o2 sensor then bring the car to jaguar for the cat.

Not ready? If that was really the codes given, then I suspect you had the car worked on just before taking it for inspection. Those failures indicate a EPA drive cycle has not completed after an ECU reset. Google "drive cycle" + OBDII and I think you will understand. If that is all it is, then dimply drive the car gently between 35 and 50 MPH for 30 - 45 minutes with a 1/2 to 3/4 full tank of gas and you should have it.
