engine numbers

when looking for a used engine 2001 xj8. the interchange always comes up vin c thru engine 0108122359 or vin c from 0108130000 does any one know the differance ? and if you can use either one?

Engine numbers are basically a date and time code.

0108122359 = 12 august 2001 23.59 pm.
0108130000 = 13 August 2001 00.00.

The first steel lined as opposed to Nikasil were from engine no 0008181043.

So as far as I can see, the difference is one minute.
