Default Engine running too cool?

Vehicle is a 2001 Vanden Plas. While driving around town, my temperature gauge settles around the middle of the gauge and doesn't budge in normal driving. However, while on the highway it drops significantly. In 90-100 degree temperatures the hottest it gets is about the lower third of the gauge. The other day on a cool morning with an outside temperature of about 58, the gauge would barely get above the first mark over the blue on the gauge. This doesn't seem normal to me and i don't think it used to do that when I bought it at 148K miles. Car now has 175K miles on it. I was thinking a stuck thermostat maybe? Any ideas?

Thanks,

David

Yes, your thermostat is probably stuck open. This is not good for your engine long term and will reduce your fuel efficiency.
