Default Engine in safe Mode

Hi,
My 2001 V8 4 ltr Sovereign has started to warn me the engine is in safe mode. It doesn't seem to affect the performance though but it does mean that cruise control is disabled. When I first switch on and drive the car everything is OK but within a short distance, average couple of miles, the warning appears but as I say I can accelerate and drive as nornal. I live in Tenerife and the only Jag dealer is 50 miles away in the North of the island and their charges, even just for getting the fault codes are very high.

Anyone know what the cause could be as the loss of cruise control is annoying.

Regards

Dave

You've posted in the wrong forum. This one is for the successor model to yours, so you need to post in the X308 forum and should get some replies.

Dave,

I have moved your post from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the X308, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 2001 XJ8. Here you will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars.

Without knowing the codes, you can only guess at the problem, but the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Summaries manual will give you an idea of the kinds of malfunctions that could cause your symptoms. It could be as simple as a problem with the Cruise Control switch or the electrical connector at the Throttle Body needing to be cleaned, or it could be something more involved. Review the "Default Action" column in the manual for codes that inhibit Cruise Control. You can download the DTC Summaries manual here:

Cheers,

Don

Many thanks Don. I've only just got the problem sorted. It was a faulty brake pedal switch in the footwell. I sprayed it with WD40 and it's cured the problem

Kind Regards Dave
