Default Sudden low idle

Hello everyone! Today I noticed when I drove home from school and to pick someone up tonight, the Jag has suddenly decreased idle. The engine is not rough, no bumpiness, just unusually low idle. Not too sure if it's me; but I'm sure I would notice a difference. Tonight it ran about 500 rpms ( below 1000 but not at 0 quite ) Not to mention various electrical issues today such as the radio resetting, doors not opening or unlocking, climate control resetting. Everything was fine yesterday and this morning.

On an unrelated subject; does the CD changer play dvd's with audio on them? I would guess not, but I figured I would ask!

Thanks everyone & happy Friday!

I would say it should never idle at 1000. But... you need to read the revs with an OBD tool as a tacho can be badly set.

Your battery may be on the way out. Stop by a auto supply store and have them do a load test.

No, you can't play DVD's.

I know they are 2 different beasts but my Infiniti recently started the low idle & stuttering. Turns out it was the Mass Air Sensor or MAF in Jaguars. I picked up some spray cleaner(they make specific MAS cleaner or you can use electrical component cleaner) & all's well.

I thought it was jealous due to sitting for weeks since the cat's arrived lol.

Godspeed

Correction: The idle is usually at 700-800 rpms or so; not 1000 as i stated. The Jag ran perfect today; idle returned to normal, no glitches in the systems. Battery and Alt. I had tested last month and both are in good shape. Must have been one of those "days" yesterday.

This could be a faulty temp sensor, this reports engine temp and cold start the ECU runs the engine at high idle for 30 seconds or so then slides back to 600rpm. If it repeats this is what I'd look at first.

It could be lots of things. Failing to go closed loop. Air leak. Etc.

OBD will tell you. Check status, fuel trims, may as well read ECT etc as well.
