Default Engine Transplant Jag XJ8 4Litre

Hello Jag World. I'm a relative new Jag Newbee. I have a 2000 XJ8 that recently skipped its timing and bent a few valves. I have found an engine from a 1998 to trans plant for $500. The general consensus is that this is the most practical and cost effective way to proceed. My concern is whether it is compatible. Does anyone out there know what I need to look for to ensure that I have an acceptable replacement? VIN #'s etc?

Cheers

Welcome here!

You'd be trying to fit an AJ26 into an AJ27 system... It is - as it seems - possible but requires a fair bit of work. Different sensors, injectors, etc.

It is EASIER to put an AJ27 engine in an AJ26 car. There is no hole for the Bank 1 CMPS and there is NO oil temp sensor hole in the AJ26.

The VVTs are different etc.etc.etc........

EASIEST way is to install a 'like' engine from 1999> XK/XJ 4.0 Normally Aspirated.

Thanks to Bob and Daim. I was afraid that this would be the case. What years would you recommend that I look for. I've noticed that this motor seems to have three or four evolutions.

Cheers

You want an engine made after August 2000, which would not have Nikasil liners. That means a 2001 model or later. Some early 2001 models were made before Aug 2000, so you have to check the engine number on 2001 models. 2002 are all good.

I think you mean 2001, August 13, Midnight onward (From Engine (0108130000))
