Factory sub replacement
Looked on eBay and see a used factory for 99 bucks then a "retro replacement" is on crutch field for 79 bucks that's 200 watts. Anyone know another source. Jagbits is out of them.
Wish you would have posted this a couple weeks ago. I just threw away mine and would have given it to you for free.
Are you set on a factory look or are you open to putting a real sub set in the trunk? Honestly you would be better off just removing the speaker and putting in a small 8"-10" sub box with amp in the trunk. You can even feed right off the old subs speaker wires.
Here is probably the cheapest solution although I spring for something better.

I think the modern BMW Mini with the Harmon Kardon premium sound system uses a similar sized 6x9 elliptical dual cone subwoofer in some models. I saw one for sale on ebay a while back for around £50 GBP & it looked identical to the Jag subwoofer...
Red October, I took your idea and searched ebay, I just bought a pair of speakers from a 2009 mini cooper, 6x9 bass speakers for $55.00. When I install them I'll let everyone know if they work. If they do, I'll have an extra one for sale.

You have to look carefully at the seller's advert-the one I saw on ebay a few months ago for a BMW Mini was definately the dual coil sub-you could see the 2 plugs on the rear & if you looked at the front of the cone you could see where the wires were routed for the dual voice coils.
This is the type of speaker to look at:

If you look at the speaker cone you can clearly see 4 wires & sealant for the dual voice coils, instead of the usual 2 for a single-cone unit. If you look at the seller's other photos you can see the 2 separate connections for the dual voice coils on the rear of the subwoofer.
Not all BMW Mini 6x9 speakers are dual voice coil-it has to be the Harmon Kardon type as in the above ebay ad...

I noticed that, I will take out the back seat and see if there is room anywhere to fit it,
The big question is will connecting only 1 place cause a problem with the amplifier ? (that does not look right)

Well when my fuel pump was replaced the speaker connector on the right was left unplugged and the speaker played but the stereo didn't recognize the subwoofer so I couldn't adjust. I figured out by checking it wasn't plugged in and reconnected. It still didn't recognize it. I'm not sure now when I replace the broken sub if my amp an stereo are going to recognize and "show" subwoofer so I can adjust it or not.
Well replaced the subwoofer with a new dual coil speaker and as I feared I can hear some light sound from speaker but that part of the amp isn't working. It won't even come up on the head unit either. Guess ima have to get another amp.
I made my own wiring looms from the circuit diagrams in order to connect up the boot-mounted Amp unit. The head unit in the facia would recognise the Amp & give the subwoofer settings in the screen menu-even with no sub actually connected (I had not fitted one at that stage & was just testing the system before connecting up all the speakers to the Amp-which required a loom to be made from the boot to the passenger compartment).
If the head unit does not recognise the Amp & does not show the subwoofer settings in the menu, then that's usually a problem with the Amp or associated wiring-I found that the Amp would still be recognised by the head unit & show the subwoofer setting on the menu even with no sub actually connected.
It's possible that when you had the fuel pump replaced some of the wiring was disturbed-if it was working alright before the fuel pump was replaced, and only stopped working properly after the fuel pump was replaced, then it's possible that some wiring in the boot relevant to the Amp was damaged or moved in some way.
It's hard to be more specific as the early X308's had the Harman Kardon system fitted, while the later models had the Alpine system fitted.
The wiring that signals the facia head unit of the presence of the Power Amp is usually low-level in nature, & nothing to do with the high-level speaker drive signals from the main power output of the Amp. So it would be unusual to disconnect the speaker & then find that the head unit won't recognise the Amp any more...
It was a pretty messy & fiddly job as the rear windscreen was in the way & I had to be careful not to break it-however, it can be done...
