The fail safe engine mode has been on for about two days now and I'm not sure what that means. I intend to do a diagnostic to see if there is a code, but I've already heard that this warning comes without any code kicking out. Anyone with some experience with this issue, what most likely is the problem? Thank you in advance.

You will need to see what the code is. On mine the code currently is P0456 which is a small emissions leak. I've already replaced the gas cap with a new one and the fail safe engine still persists. It clears every time you shut down but will reappear after I'm driving a bit and the system detects the leak. I'm waiting for time to get a smoke test done to see if that will detect the leak. Otherwise I have to start replacing parts until the right part is replaced.

If the Fail safe message does not clear after each shut down, then reappear after driving a little bit than this is probably not your problem.

 

Get the codes. At this point it is a guessing game.
