Default failsafe engine light

2001 XJB Jag - got new tires and new brakes on the front - never use cruise control, yet am not getting a 'failsafe engine' warning with orange light - any ideas?

the Brake Pedal switch is a very common culprit. If you can pull the switch off - takes I think an 8mm and a 10? on the nut and bolt on the pedal, and it slides out from there, takes about 5 minutes to remove it. Spray it down with WD40, or even electronics parts cleaner (non-residue), and see if it makes it better at all. In my case, it solved it temporarily, and replacement is simple enough afterwards, if that's what the cause is. I hardly use the cruise myself, but since it's the pedal switch that's a likely cause, and that gets a lot more action, it's worth a shot to test.

Yes, it's up near the top of the brake pedal itself. Some people have just wrapped towels around it and sprayed it while on the car, but it can also be taken off easily enough
