Unhappy Flat Battery.

Hi All,

Left spare XJ8 without starting, now battery is flat and I can't gain access to boot to charge it.
1/ How do I get into boot?
2/ Can I charge via any other means?
Cheers Bill W

There are threads on here explaining how to:
What I recall is removing license plate, where you'll see a hole. You then stick something like an icepick in the hole and wiggle and push until the boot pops. My memory is not the greatest, so find the threads. I wish you success................ Jim

Will your key not work? When mine was flat, I was able to open the trunk with the key, although it did turn fairly hard, seeing as it was pushing on the unpowered actuator.

If you open the bonnet, on the drivers side ( RHD ) there is a rubber cap on the false bulkhead, pull this off the stud and you can put a positive jump lead to it, the negative jump lead to the chassis and this will let you open the boot. DO NOT try to jump start the car this way.

I have long ago stopped feeling sorry for people that don't use the key a few times a year and then whine when it comes time to actually need to manually open the boot lid.

Fishing through slots, drilling holes etc.

Just use the key once in a while!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think people forget that you can use the key to open the trunk

Default Flat Battery

Hi All,
Problem solved. I was using the wrong keys to open the boot. Used the right one, now battery charger is in situ and charging away.
