flexplate alignment Issue

flexplate alignment Issue
Does anyone know the way to align the flexplate on a 98 xj8? I was under the impression that the pattern on the Crank and flexplate would only let it go on one way, but Im having problems with timing and I know Im doing the Chains right and think this might be my issue. Can it go on more then one way?? thanks everyone in advanCe
