Default front shock replacement - possible problem with "suspension fault" code?

I'm just bought Bilstein comfort shocks for my 98 VDP and upper bushings. Will there be any problems with the "Suspension Fault" code, if so, how to get around it. Also, do I need lower shock bushings or do the Bilstein come installed with lower bushings.

Thanks

alckc, i'm pretty sure the 98 doesn't have any computer controlled suspension, unless you have an 'R' version. And, the air suspension systems began in the 2004 models. You can always tell if the top of the shock has any wiring coming from it, looking at it from under the bonnet.

A new shock will have the lower bushing already pressed into it.

You'll notice a huge difference when those 12-yr old shocks are replaced!

Expecting them to be delivered Monday or Tuesday. Slowly but surely replacing and upgrading everything. Over the past few years I have put in more that the car is worth but I love the ride of the car more than my other car. Next on the list after the shocks will be the tranny filter and fluid. Afterwards, will consider whether to tackle changing the tensioners, chains and guides.

Im going to tackle the front shock and upper bushing replacement this weekend. Before I start, do you recommend that I compres the spring. If yes, can I use a universal spring compressor or a special tool needed. Thinking of getting a loaner compressor from the local autoparts store. Can the shocks be replaced without compressing the spring?
