Default Front shock spring assister

Front shocks normally don't come with upper spring assister because it is a dealer part. Many people mistake this for upper shock "mount" bushings. See illustration #9. When they request upper shock bushings they are provided with the shock mount bushing instead of spring assister. See photos.

Deteriorated spring assister install atop front shock under gaiter/boot

Right side not as bad

Spring assister #9

MY 96 XJR oringnal shocks had the spring assisters I have renewed these shokies and no spring assisters on the new Blistenes , I feel the ride is a bit harsher on some of our rough roads when the shocks are really working .
I do plan to fit the spring assisters from the old shokies as they are in good condition , then I can get a idea as to the benifit of having them in place Cheers

On the x308 I always saw them as bump stops. Most likely the same function on the x300

Yep, I think that is what they essentially are, bump stops as they are called in other applications.

What I can't understand is why the darned things as so stratospherically expensive. The X300 "spring assisters" are $60-70 EACH. At that price it almost makes sense to replace the whole shock.

Darn Costly all right for what they are. I was surprised they my new shokies (from Jaguar) never came with them, they were complete with all the other insulators, and show in the parts lists. At least my old ones are serviceable and when I get a chance, (famous last words) I will fit them to see the difference

RockAuto has the spring assister for X308 with a new boot for about $19. The color is different than the OEM but I can live with that.

BTW, for the X300, I did confirm with Bilstein that their aftermarket replacement shocks do come with these as well as all the other bushings, except the lower bushing in the wishbone of course.

When I changed out my struts and springs, I cut them down to the smallest portion at the bottom. My stroke really diminished with lowering springs...going to be having adjustable front struts made so I can regain some of that travel. Bump stops is what they are....TALL ones at that!
