Default Fuel pump issues

I finished installing a fuel pump on my 2000 Jaguar Vanden plas today. Before starting I primed the pump then attempted to start it but it still will not run. I was attempting to upload the video but had difficulties doing so. Please click on link.

The # 1 fuel pump relay will click on for 4 seconds then click off by design , You have that

In the heat of battle you will drain the battery below a certain voltage to not properly run the ECU , For the inline 6 engine X300 it's 11.4 volts . You will get starter rotation but no ignition , In your film you have ignition at this point but keep in mind of having a fully charged battery .

New fuel pump installations sometimes require a couple of key rotations to get the fuel lines filled by the 1st and 2nd # 1 fuel pump relay clicks

By spraying a starter fluid other then a MAF sensor safe fluid is not good on the MAF

The relay will click a 3rd time on when the ECU sees engine rotation by the crankshaft position sensor

There is a check valve on the fuel pump that traps this initial fuel rail priming and the engine should light off until the charge is used up but the 3rd click should be before it's used up . There is a history of this check valve being bad and open on new fuel pumps out of the box

There is a test port on most but not all AJ26 series engines on the left fuel rail to see if the check valve is good and trapping this initial fuel charge , Without putting a pressure gauge on the test port you can bleed it to see if you get fuel for some troubleshooting information without a pressure value . But ultimately you ant to see a specific value off X and no less . The value is 43 PSI for the inline 6 X300 controlled by the fuel pressure regulator , cheap and they don't last forever .

You will have to put your finger on it to feel as there are other relays that click in the area in the start sequence

In the bigger picture you may have put your engine cylinder walls in a condition referd to as a bore wash where you don't get good enough compression for a sustainable light off , easily correctable .

Early model AJ26 series engines have a manufacturing flaw known as " nikosil " but I think the 2000 is past that manufacture date and you have a corrected AJ27 upgrade by a stamp on a location on your engine

Clogged fuel filter ? Behind the left rear wheel , be careful not to twist the fuel lines

Swap the fuel pump relay with the passenger seat heat relay underneath the seat . As the original fuel pump fails and pits the relay power contacts it is recommended to be changed after fuel pump change . The original relay may not carry enough current to properly power the new pomp .

Inspect the fuel pump connector for burnt
sockets

There is a trick to power the fuel pump to run if you don't get the 3rd click on . This involves putting a heavy jumper wire between point 3 and 5 on the relay marked on the relay socket reference page 103 upper left corner on the wiring guide below .

There was a change in this 3 and 5 number around the time your car was manufactured
