Hi Hope everyone is enjoying this great saturday.

I have an XJR 2003 and recently had to change the fuel pump which my mechanic did and in doing so has to unplug the battery.
When i got in the car to drive both the radio and cigarette lighter would not operate no juice nothing radio wont even come on
He switched out all the fuses still nothing. Any suggestions? any idea what it could be now i cnt charge my phone while driving and
theres no radio. first time this has happened.

There are 3 fuses for the radio but just one for the cigarette lighter

So we look at that one

See page 141

Front and rear lighters ?

http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxj2003.pdf

Point 31 circle hash is fuse # 5 trunk

Point 32 circle hash is fuse # 5 trunk on page X

Skipping to page 39 this requires the Auxiliary positive relay to close in the trunk fuse box

You can keep the key in the run position and remove this relay and feel for it to click

With the key in the run position before the start position rock the relay in and out of its sockets and the relay should click

Trunk can stay open

You can do this with the ignition positive relay in the left heelboard fuse box < radio fuses there

looks like I'm gonna have to wait a little to try this out those rear fuel lines might be harder than transmission on w123 Mercedes, had a similar problem to jaguar2003 though my cig lighter went out from a penny falling in the hole about 2 years ago

That would just blow a fuse in the X308 case but you would be testing the relay that passes power to the fuses

Can you tell us exactly how you accessed your fuel pump? I think I know what’s going on with it.

pulled it out from the front instead of cutting a hole in the rear shelf, thought it would be a little less destructive. btw as a side note high horse was saying that some lines would be loose on the rear tank lines. how loose should they be one clicked in the other is just in but comes out with out to much of a problem, couldn't get it to click

Ok, the correct way to pull the fuel tank out is by first disconnecting the fuel lines from underneath the car before you move the tank at all. I believe what happened is that you crushed or kinked your fuel lines when you pulled the tank away from its area and that’s why you don’t have fuel pressure at the rail but yet hear your fuel pump. If you want definitive proof, remove the fuel filter (possibly it’s clogged??) and have a catch pan underneath the car and have someone turn the key on to temporarily activate the fuel pump. Please be very careful that if you’re down there it doesn’t spray fuel in your face.

Yes, tell him to double check his work and ask if he just pulled the tank away without disconnecting the fuel lines first. Tell him to repair it right without using rubber fuel hose and hose clamps and it shouldn’t cost you one penny. He can order a used steel fuel pipe that goes from the fuel filter to the bottom of the tank. A good tech double checks their work.

from what i learned yesterday the pump relay isn't coming on i did the paper clip trick and it popped the fuel line at the back off and dumped a bit of fuel out i guess i was prob hearing the computer mine is kinda loud from the rear. though i do wish i had disconnected them earlier, is it any harder to replace them? working with them is such a pain. filter was replaced about a week ago i forgot to say that

It won’t be easy if you aren’t familiar with these procedures. If you have skinny arms, it’s more doable. You must remove the 13mm nut securing the emergency brake cable at a half moon shaped bar just in front of the diff and move that out of the way. I also remove two 8mm bolts that secure the evap canister pipe to the subframe and remove that pipe assembly. Above the diff are the fuel lines going to the bottom of the tank. Use a quick release tool on those 2 lines. Be aware that some fuel will come out. The pipe from the tank to the fuel filter is the most important one to replace if it’s damaged. If the other pipe is damaged, you can repair that as it’s not under real high pressure like the other one.

Be aware that the fuel lines for the X308 are NLA.

When you damage them by NOT disconnecting, a salvage yard part might be your option BUT.........................
Salvage yard guys just pull the tank into the boot and ruin the lines ANYWAY.
(too much trouble to disconnect from underneath)

Seems everyone wants a shortcut.

fortunately the yards here just puncture the tank through the trunk so it doesn't damage the lines

so the one that is possibly broken is the line that doesn't go to the fuel filter. how could i repair that one since used parts are hard to come by and as motorcarman said the lines are NLA. also the exhaust is off from the midpoint to where I start to curve at the diff. IDK how but it broke off in 2020 didn't realize how bad till now the whole pipe is gone so access is a lot easier

What would be ideal is getting a good picture of where the fuel lines go into the tank and post them here.

The RETURN line is ONE PIECE from the firewall area to the tank!!!!!!!!!!!!(NOT a fun job because of the length)
