fun times with a high gearbox temp
I've had my '98 Jag XJ8 over a month now and I love it. But that pesky high gearbox temp warning (amber) keeps coming on. I've done some research on it including past posts on this forum so i'm not overly concerned and I can swap it out this summer. When it comes on the performance of the vehicle is not compromised at all and it comes on at the oddest times. Just thought i'd share some of the humorous instances when this warning has come on.
1)driving for a couple of hours both street and highway speeds. high temp warning does not come on. I pull into a car wash that has that undercarriage spray as you drive in (cold water i'm assuming). warning comes on. You would think it would cool it down however slightly.
2)driving on the highway and sensor comes on. switch off the sport feature and warning goes off. Reverse of this, driving without sport enabled and warning comes on. switch on the sport feature and it goes away. lol.
3)my favourite - car sat for 3 days in minus 10 degrees celsius weather(ontario, canada 2013/14 winter from hell). start the car up and warning comes on saying that my gearbox is experiencing high temps. i hadn;t even taken it out of park yet.
