I would like to know why there is a piece at the end of the gas pedal. Is it possible to remove? Has any function? Sometimes I fell I would like to have more pedal stroke.

Here is a picture of this piece without the black plastic lid:

 

That is your kickdown switch. Makes the tranny grab a lower gear when you floor it.

You should check your throttle cable adjustment to make sure you are getting wide open throttle when you floor it.

Search for "throttle cable adjustment" in the 308 section and the info should come up.

Only XJR's have a kickdown switch, the NA car's kickdown is controlled by the tcm/ecm.

 

And so ... it is up to the OP to actually mention year and model.

 

Mine has a big black plastic piece in there.

 

The model is an XJ8 3.2 from 1999. So if it is not the kick-down what it's the purpose of the button?
