gear shift indicator
On both my previous XK8 and now my XJ8 the gear indicator only lights up a red dot next to the position. Is the whole indicator supposed to light up?

Yes, there is a circuit board with 2 incandescent lights soldered to it that fail. The red lights are individual LEDs which is why they outlast the two clear bulbs. Mine recently failed one after the other.
